Tales From The 52

Another Freezing Night @ 11:22 pm

Current Mood: restless restless

And the house is making strange creaky noises - I hate that!

My sister found a journal my father had when he was stationed at Camp Crowder, Missouri in 1945. Dad was about as good at keeping a journal as I am, so there's not a lot to it and what is in there is, frankly, pretty boring. I know from what he had told me in the past, that his life in the military was difficult but he didn't share any of that with his diary - "Got a letter from mom." "Missed chow in the mess hall and had to eat sardines and crackers." I just have to remember this is the journal of an 18 year-old boy. There was one entry where  he wrote about seeing a show in town with his pal Gary and wrote in the margins after the fact - "Not good."

Happy Boxing Day @ 04:41 pm

Current Mood: lethargic lethargic

I haven't posted anything in awhile. It's not because there's nothing going on, well, there isn't much going on with me personally, but several people who are close to me are having difficult times. I don't feel right about blogging about other people's lives, even anonymously. It is hard to watch people you care about struggle and there is not much that you can do to help.

Christmas was fairly quiet. Dinner was great again this year - ham AND turkey! I got a new camera that I will have to sit down and figure out how to operate. And then my friends can look forward to more pictures of Sparkles here and on Facebook - woo-hoo!

I found out I didn't get the librarian position in Western History and Genealogy, which was a big disappointment, I can't lie. Sometimes I feel like I will never dig out of this post-grad-school debt hole I'm in. But I'm thankful to have a full-time job, a place to live and friends and family that love me. All-in-all life is treating me well.

I can haz job interview? @ 11:28 pm

Current Mood: anxious anxious

I have an interview tomorrow with Denver Public Library's Western History and Genealogy Department.  I'm definitely anxious about it because I've been snacking all evening, which is something I haven't done in ages. It would be a great opportunity and I'd be really  good.

I'd better go to bed before I find something else to munch or start singing that song from A Chorus Line -

God I hope I get it!
I hope I get it!
How many people does he need?

Aja? @ 04:21 pm

Current Mood: annoyed annoyed

For the past couple of days there has been a wooden chair sitting in the middle of one of the aisles on the 4th floor of the library. On that wooden chair are a fairly large pile of LP's - LP short for Long Playing Records aka albums aka phonograph records aka "ancient history". They've been abandoned, like an unwanted baby in the middle of a public library in the middle of a section of Congressional hearings. The logistics of all this boggles my mind. Someone hauled in a stack of about 40 LP's, including the Steely Dan classic Aja (which are really heavy as those of us old enough to remember should know), they hauled them up to the 4th floor of the library, they hauled a wooden chair into the middle of one of the aisles and left their LP's on that chair. I don't even bother asking why because there is no answer that would make sense and most answers would probably scare me.

My library cohort Steven and I have both avoided doing anything about the album pile, because neither one of us could figure out what to do. I finally took matters into my own hands and took a book truck to the 4th floor, retrieved the records and put them in the book donations cart on the 2nd floor. Let the donations people figure it out, I guess. And add it to the list of weird stuff I find on the job.

Hammertime!

We will be resuming our regularly scheduled whining and bitching shortly. In the meantime let's celebrate Hotchka being cancer-free for 4 years.

Break it down! *dances*

What's in your refrigerator right now?

Since I'm not near my fridge at the moment, I'll try to remember. Hmmm...a lot of yogurt, a Pizza Hut Pizza with one slice missing (who me?), siracha sauce, zucchini from the garden, carrots from the garden, havarti cheese, lemonade, maple syrup and cucumbers from the garden. There's other stuff, but that's all I can recall.

Sadly, there is no beer in the fridge.

What is your fondest childhood memory? How often does it come to mind?

One of my friends had her birthday party at the old Elitch Gardens in Denver when I was about 9 or 10. I had a total of 8 roller coaster rides in that one afternoon - 6 on the Wildcat and 2 on Mr. Twister. That was a pretty awesome day.

I picked out this video before I saw piowapuff 's entry about going to an SCPA fund raiser. I just wanted to post something to cheer her up. Spooky!
